Imaging transforming your stylus into a pen, pencil, spray paint, compass, brush, stamp, and even musical instruments like the flute and saxophone. Thanks to Microsoft Research, they have created a magical pen grip that can dynamically reconfigure itself to be any digital device you want it to be. Of course, when I mentioned those items, I don’t mean they will transform in reality, but instead, depending on the way you hold the stylus – like a flute, airbrush or like a pen – the program will recognize that and automatically transform the functionality of the device.
Equipped with capacitive multi-touch sensor and orientation sensor, the device can easily recognize the way it is being held and move so it will switch between the 8 different functionalities on the fly; who needs to click around to change your pen into an airbrush? While it can only transform into either one of eight functionalities, I see great potential with this recognizing pen grip. If you’re a designer, is this something you’ll be lusting over?
